ABOUT THIS EPISODE

At the crux of this episode is a story about a lady who wanted to ‘prove people wrong’! It’s about a strong lady who has used her passions to fuel her motivation to succeed.

At school, Gail’s headmistress told her parents:

“she’ll never make a journalist because she won’t put her foot in the door, because I’ve always been quite a quiet person, really, maybe, you know, people would say introverted, but I proved her role and actually got the job and then I went into radio”

Having had a very successful career as a journalist, Gail Hanlon is now the face and driving force of the globally recognised blog ‘ Is This Mutton’ – A Fashion & Fun Blog For The Over 50’s and inspires women ‘of a certain age’ to discover their distinct style.

In this episode we talk about the tools women can acquire to help them become more confident – colour & style analysis being key.

Gail is a Winter like myself, however, she is a Sprinter Winter and WOWS in the colours closest to Spring such as Chinese Blue and Acid Yellow. Gail looked fantastic on the podcast as she was wearing a Kettlewell Colours Chinese Blue wrap with an Acid Yellow Infinity Scarf -a superb colour combination for a Sprinter Winter!

I am a Sultry Winter and so my very best WOW colours from the Winter palette are Pine Green, Charcoal Grey, Mole, Burgundy to name a few. A colour like Acid Yellow, I would wear combined with at least 2 other colours such as grey and damson to give maximum impact.

Gail shares her passions and her story behind the blog giving great hints and tips along the way.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

“everybody’s got the potential to be confident, even, you know, a shy person like myself, it’s just finding the things that motivate you and make you feel strongly about something”

ABOUT GAIL HANLON

Gail Hanlon originally trained as a journalist and worked in BBC radio before crossing the dark side into marketing and PR.  She has spent 25 years in the world of semiconductors (!) managing creative campaigns, advertising, social media and email marketing for Intel Corporation and now Cambridge-based Arm Ltd.

All that technology-led Gail to seek an alternative creative outlet for her love of writing, fashion, and beauty. She set up her blog, Is This Mutton dot com, as a hobby: it was the successor to a whimsical blog that ran from 2006 – before the days of social media.

Her blog has recently been showcasing Gai’s adoption of her Winter palette (clear/light / cool). In addition to fashion and beauty, Gail campaigns against gender-based ageism. She was recently asked for her views on ageism in the beauty industry by the Huffington Post.

She lives in London with her marathon runner husband and an elderly cat. Any spare time is spent walking in nearby Epping Forest: last year Gail completed the Walk 1500 Miles Challenge.
